The Jardin Alpin is the wooded enclave at the top of 1850, above the village and the Croisette, where Courchevel’s original grand chalets were built and where the pistes run past the front door. It is the most private corner of the resort and, since Rosewood arrived, the address with the largest suite inventory in it. The lifts at the Jardin Alpin gondola are a few metres away, and the village centre, with its boutiques and restaurants, is a short walk down or a two minute drive.

Tristan Auer, whose work includes the Hotel de Crillon in Paris, took an existing hotel and rebuilt it around Courchevel’s post-war golden age: pale timber, stone, copper and brass, deep sofas and open fires. It reads as a chalet from the inside, with the scale and service of a Rosewood.

Rooms, suites and the three houses

There are 51 rooms, suites and signature houses. Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows and a seated terrace facing the mountains. The entry-level Deluxe Rooms run from 25 to 36 square metres, which is generous for Courchevel, and the Premier Junior Suites add a sitting area and a sofa bed for a child. Above them sit the suites and signature suites, with the space and the views increasing as you climb.

The three houses are what set the hotel apart. The Courchevel Two-Bedroom House has four terraces and the Saulire Two-Bedroom House has five. The Jardin Alpin Apartment is a four-bedroom residence of up to 178 square metres for eight guests, with a cinema room, a professional kitchen, a dining table for twelve and its own lift. For a family or a group of friends who want a chalet with a hotel attached, it is the answer.

Asaya Spa and the pool

Asaya is Rosewood’s wellness brand and the spa here is built for the end of a ski day. The 17 metre indoor pool sits under a wall of glass looking at the mountain, with saunas and steam rooms alongside and a fitness centre for anyone still with energy. Treatments use EviDenS de Beaute and Sodashi, and the menu is written around tired legs and cold-weather skin rather than generic spa fare.

The kids club takes the younger ones off the slopes and off your hands for an afternoon, and the ski room and ski butlers handle everything else: boots warmed and waiting, skis carried to the piste, rental and retail on site, lessons and guides arranged.

SALTO, the bar and the cigar room

SALTO is the restaurant, with a panoramic terrace facing the slopes and a menu drawn from the French and Italian Alps: slow-cooked meats, Savoyard dishes, fondue done properly, and a serious champagne list. It is the lunch stop you ski to and the dinner you do not need to leave the hotel for.

The bar and lounge is where the day ends, with a fire and a cocktail list, and the cigar room beside it for those who want one.
