Luxury ski holidays, planned properly

A great ski holiday comes down to details most people only discover once they arrive: how far the hotel really is from the lift, whether the ski room is warm in the morning, which instructor suits a nervous eight-year-old, and whether the transfer from Geneva takes two hours or four in February traffic.

As a luxury travel agency that has sent clients to the Alps for many years, we plan luxury ski holidays around those details. We work with the best hotels in the French and Swiss Alps, from ski-in, ski-out palaces in Courchevel to the grand hotels of St Moritz and Gstaad, and we know which room, which week and which resort will suit you.

Why book your ski holiday with us

Booking a ski trip direct usually means booking five things separately: flights, transfers, hotel, lift passes and lessons. We bring them together, so you land, get into a car and arrive to find everything waiting.

We know the Alpine hotels well, including the ones that rarely have availability in peak weeks. Our relationships with them often mean added benefits such as upgrades, breakfast, resort credit or a late check-out, depending on the hotel and dates.

Before you travel we help you choose the right resort for your group, arrange private instructors and childcare, and book restaurant tables in the weeks when they fill months ahead.

Where to ski in the Alps

Every Alpine resort has its own character. Some are about big mileage and high-altitude snow, others about long lunches, beautiful villages and gentle slopes. Here are the resorts we book most often, and who each one suits.

Bathroom interior with central sink and columns at Aman Le Mélézin

Courchevel, France

Courchevel sits in Les 3 Vallées, one of the largest linked ski areas in the world, with some 600 km of pistes shared with Méribel and Val Thorens. The higher village of Courchevel 1850 has the greatest concentration of palace hotels in the Alps, plus serious restaurants and boutiques.

It suits almost everyone: wide, well-groomed runs for mixed abilities, excellent ski schools for children, and plenty of challenge for strong skiers. Our favourites include Aman Le Mélézin, Cheval Blanc Courchevel, Les Airelles, Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin and Le K2 Palace.

Open fire in the grand stone fireplace at Airelles Val d'Isere

Val d'Isère, France

Val d’Isère is linked with Tignes, giving around 300 km of high-altitude skiing and one of the longest seasons in the Alps. It is the pick for keen skiers and off-piste groups who want reliable snow from December right through to spring.

The village itself is traditional and lively, with a good après-ski scene. Airelles Val d’Isère brings palace-level service to the resort, with ski-in, ski-out access.

Snow-covered slopes and chalets of Megève seen from a cable car, French Alps

Megève, France

Megève is the most charming of the French resorts: a medieval village of cobbled streets, horse-drawn sleighs and chalet-style hotels, around an hour and a half from Geneva. The skiing is gentle and scenic, with views of Mont Blanc, which makes it ideal for families, relaxed skiers and those who value lunch as much as the slopes.

We recommend Four Seasons Megève and Le M de Megève.

Guest at a tall window overlooking snowy mountains at Badrutt's Palace Hotel, St Moritz

St Moritz and Gstaad, Switzerland

St Moritz, in the Engadin valley, is where Alpine winter tourism began and it twice hosted the Winter Olympics. Expect dry, sunny weather, a glamorous social scene and events such as polo and horse racing on the frozen lake. Badrutt’s Palace and Kempinski Grand Hôtel des Bains are our preferred addresses.

Gstaad is quieter and more discreet: a village of wooden chalets with a car-free main street and relaxed skiing across several small areas. It is as much about the hotels as the slopes, and Gstaad Palace and The Alpina Gstaad are two of the finest in Switzerland.

Outdoor infinity pool with Alpine mountain views at The Brecon Adelboden, Switzerland

Andermatt and Adelboden, Switzerland

For something less well known, Andermatt has grown into one of Switzerland’s most exciting resorts, with skiing linked to Sedrun and good snow at altitude. It is an easy drive from Zurich, and The Chedi Andermatt is one of the best hotels in the Alps.

Adelboden, in the Bernese Oberland, is a traditional village known for its World Cup race and uncrowded family skiing. The Brecon Adelboden is a small, stylish hotel that suits couples and families alike.

Where to stay

Our ski hotels range from the palaces of Courchevel 1850 to smaller, more personal hotels in traditional villages. For most clients the priority is ski-in, ski-out access, so you can clip into your skis at the door, followed by a ski concierge who fits boots, warms them overnight and has your pass ready.

Families often prefer a hotel with connecting rooms or a suite, a kids’ club and an in-house ski school. Groups of friends may want a private apartment within a hotel, with full service but more space. Tell us who is travelling and we will suggest the right hotel and the right room.

Planning your ski holiday

Flights from London to Geneva or Zurich take under two hours, and Chambéry is a good option for the French resorts in the busiest weeks. From the airport we arrange a private car, or a helicopter transfer to resorts such as Courchevel, which turns a long drive into a short, spectacular flight.

We book private instructors, ski school places and childcare well in advance, as the best instructors are reserved months ahead for February half-term and the Christmas and New Year weeks. We can also arrange equipment to be fitted in your room on arrival and restaurant tables for every evening of your stay.

When to go skiing

The Alpine ski season runs from early December to mid-April, with high-altitude resorts such as Val d’Isère often open from late November into early May.

December brings the festive atmosphere and busy Christmas and New Year weeks. January is quieter and cold, with good snow and better availability. February has the most reliable conditions but is the busiest month, with school half-terms across Europe. March and April bring longer, sunnier days and spring snow, and are often the best value in the palace hotels.

Combine your ski holiday

Many clients add a few days either side of the slopes. Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in eastern Switzerland is one of Europe’s great spa hotels and pairs well with St Moritz or Andermatt. Geneva and Zurich both work well for a night on the lake before or after the mountains.

For the fastest door-to-door journey, our private jet team can fly you to Geneva, Sion or Samedan near St Moritz, with onward helicopter or car transfers. Speak to one of our advisors about combining resorts or adding a city stay.
