Details
Offering an immersive perspective across the Peruvian Andes, the Belmond Andean Explorer uniquely brings together the region’s dramatic scenery with the hospitality for which Belmond is renowned, as it voyages along some of the world’s highest rail routes.
Comprising just 35 en-suite cabins, the train’s intimacy reinforces the highly personalised experiences onboard. Cabins range from the cosy bunk-bed cabins to larger twin cabins and signature suite cabins.
Thoughtfully designed, the spacious suite cabins feature plush double beds dressed in alpaca textiles, seating areas, and luxurious en-suite shower rooms. At 13.2 sqm, they are the largest on the train.
Each journey is further enhanced by Belmond’s hallmark hospitality focused on dining and wellness. These include two restaurant cars serving Peruvian cuisine, as well as a bar and lounge car featuring live music and performances in a social setting.
Wellness focuses on relaxation at altitude, and the Andean Explorer’s dedicated Picaflor Spa Car uses Andean botanicals in its treatments. These are designed to support acclimatisation, alongside restorative rituals that renew and energise.
The train’s observation car is also a highlight, featuring an open-air deck that offers uninterrupted views of the Andes and its serene surroundings.

Planning Your Journey on the Belmond Andean Explorer: Frequently Asked Questions
From cabin choice to altitude, a few questions come up on almost every Andean Explorer enquiry. Our travel designers have answered the most common ones below — and as Belmond Bellini Club members, we’re on hand to plan every detail of your journey through the Peruvian Andes.
The Belmond Andean Explorer travels between Cusco, Lake Titicaca and Arequipa on one of the highest railway routes in the world, crossing the Andes at over 4,000 metres. Choose from one- and two-night itineraries — including Peruvian Highlands and Spirit of the Water — with guided excursions to the Uros floating islands, Raqch’i and the Sumbay caves included, and an optional Colca Canyon extension.
Peru’s first luxury sleeper train offers three cabin categories — Suite, Twin and Bunk — each with a private en-suite bathroom and shower, heating and air conditioning, and handwoven Peruvian textiles. On board you’ll also find a dining car, a bar car with live music, a spa car, and an open-air observation car for sunset over the altiplano.
The route reaches over 4,000 metres, so mild altitude symptoms are possible. Cabins are equipped with oxygen, the crew are trained in altitude care, and the pace on board is deliberately gentle. We recommend two or three nights acclimatising in Cusco first — our travel designers build this into every Andean Explorer itinerary, along with the right cabin choice for comfortable sleep at altitude.
Fares start from around US$3,300 per person depending on cabin and itinerary, rising to circa US$6,800 for a two-night journey in a Suite. The fare is fully inclusive: gourmet Peruvian dining, an open bar, live entertainment and all guided excursions. As Belmond Bellini Club members, Berkeley Travel adds an onboard credit and VIP recognition at no extra cost over booking direct.
