A Private Peninsula at Grand Cul-de-Sac
Le Guanahani opened in 1986 on an 18-acre private peninsula on the north-east coast of St Barth, between the calm Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon and the open water of Maréchal Bay, inside a protected nature reserve. After Hurricane Irma in 2017 the resort was rebuilt over four years and reopened under Rosewood in 2021. On 1 November 2026 it becomes Airelles Le Guanahani, the French house’s tenth address, its first beach resort and its first in the Caribbean. Airelles’ owner, LOV Group, has bought the hotel outright and kept its team in place, and the early changes are to service, dining and the spa rather than the buildings. Gustavia is 15 minutes away by car and the island’s airport about 12 minutes. Read more in our story on Le Guanahani’s move from Rosewood to Airelles.
Rooms, Suites and the Garden House
The 66 rooms, suites and villas are colourful Creole-style cottages set through tropical gardens, many with views of the ocean or the lagoon, and 20 have a private pool. Rooms range from Ocean Bay and Ocean Cove Rooms to Beach Rooms close to the sand. Suites include Garden and Garden Pool Suites, Ocean View and Ocean View Pool Suites, Beach Pool Suites and a Wellness Junior Suite, alongside a collection of named suites, among them Bougainvillea, with its own pool, and Lagoon, steps from the beach.
The largest is the Garden House, with three bedrooms, space for up to seven adults and a private pool, which suits families and friends travelling together.
Beaches, Pools and the Airelles Spa
There are two beaches. Grand Cul-de-Sac is a calm, reef-protected lagoon where turtles feed, ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking, while Maréchal on the ocean side is wilder and quieter. The infinity Beach Pool looks over the lagoon, and the adults-only Spa Pool sits beside the new Airelles Spa, with treatments by Laboratoires Botanique Avancée, a fitness room and tennis. Kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment are complimentary, and the lagoon is the island’s kitesurfing spot, with lessons, boat trips and fishing arranged by the concierge.
Dining and Bars at Airelles Le Guanahani
Under Airelles, La Table du Guanahani serves breakfast and lunch from a buffet and an à la carte dinner with Caribbean influences. Le Pélican is the bar on the beach, the Pool Bar looks over the lagoon, and the Library in the main house is the place for an evening drink. Airelles’ houses in the Alps and Provence each run several restaurants, so the dining here is likely to grow over the first seasons. Gustavia’s restaurants and boutiques are 15 minutes away when you want a night out.
