It is by invitation only: over 1,200 agency locations and more than 20,000 advisors across 58 countries, drawing on preferred relationships with 2,500 of the world’s best hotels, resorts, cruise lines and tour companies. Berkeley Travel is a member, which is what unlocks Virtuoso rates, amenities and access for our clients.

Yes. Berkeley Travel is a Virtuoso member agency, and every booking we place at a Virtuoso preferred hotel carries the network’s amenities automatically. Membership is by invitation, so it cannot be applied for or bought, and it sits alongside the direct programmes we hold with individual hotel groups.

Daily breakfast for two, an amenity valued at US$100 or more set by the hotel, a room upgrade on arrival subject to availability, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability, and VIP recognition, with the property told who you are before you arrive. Benefits apply on top of the hotel’s own best available rate.

No. You pay the hotel’s best available flexible rate, the same as booking direct, and we charge no booking fee. The hotel remunerates the agency, so the amenities are added at no cost to you.

Each hotel sets its own, valued at US$100 or more: most often a property, dining or spa credit, sometimes an airport transfer, a treatment or a local experience instead. It is normally applied once per stay rather than per night. Your Travel Designer tells you exactly what your hotel offers before you book.

No. Upgrades, early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability, usually confirmed on arrival. What the network changes is your position in the queue: Virtuoso guests are flagged to the hotel in advance, and your Travel Designer requests the upgrade ahead of you arriving rather than leaving it to the front desk.

The benefits are similar: breakfast, an amenity, an upgrade when available. Fine Hotels + Resorts requires a Platinum or Centurion card and books through Amex Travel, while Virtuoso requires nothing except booking through a member agency. The hotel lists differ, and Virtuoso’s flexible rates are frequently the lower of the two. Where a hotel sits in both, your Travel Designer books whichever leaves you better off.

Berkeley Travel also holds direct appointments such as Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Rosewood Elite, Marriott STARS and Hilton for Luxury. Where a hotel appears in more than one programme, we compare the benefits line by line and book through the stronger one. You do not need to know which programme applies; that is our job.

Usually, yes. Virtuoso bookings are made in your own name on the hotel’s flexible rate, and most hotel groups treat them as qualifying stays for points and status. A small number do not, and policies differ by brand, so your Travel Designer confirms the position for your hotel before you commit.

Yes. The network’s 2,500 preferred partners include cruise lines, tour operators, villas, air partners and destinations. On many sailings, Virtuoso Voyages adds benefits such as shipboard credit or hosted experiences. The same booking principle applies throughout: the standard rate, with the network’s extras on top.

For hotel bookings you pay the hotel directly, exactly as if you had booked with it yourself. Your card guarantees the reservation and the hotel’s standard flexible cancellation policy applies, which we confirm in writing before anything is committed.
