Riviera Nayarit, Between the Jungle and the Pacific
Rosewood Mandarina opened in 2025 on Mexico’s Pacific coast in Riviera Nayarit, set across forested hills above the sandy shores of Canalan Beach, with the peaks of the Sierra Madre behind. It is Rosewood’s fourth property in Mexico and is about 50 minutes’ drive north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport. The design draws on local craftsmanship and culture, and the resort spreads from the beach up into the hills, so suites look either over gardens and mountains or straight out to the ocean.
Suites and Villas with Private Pools
Each of the 134 suites and villas has its own plunge pool and generous outdoor space, from beachfront studio suites a few steps from the sand to suites on the flatlands and in the hills. For families and longer stays, the villas offer the most room. The Canalan Beachfront Two-Bedroom Villa sits on the beach over two floors, with two king bedrooms and room for up to six guests, and the Cora Four-Bedroom Mountaintop Villa, the largest on the property, has four bedrooms across some 13,000 square feet, its own infinity lap pool and views along the coast. Between the suites and the two standalone villas sit three specialty suites, a good choice for couples who want more space without taking a whole villa.
Asaya Spa, Pools and the Beach
Asaya Spa offers treatments inspired by Nayarit’s age-old rituals and traditions, including the signature Mara’akame Journey, alongside a fully equipped fitness centre and the private Social House. The spa is open daily from 9am to 7pm. Four oceanfront infinity pools are open to guests of all ages, and the Beach Club looks after loungers and cabanas on Canalan Beach. Surfboards, paddle boards and hydrofoils are complimentary at the water sports centre, and the Rosewood Explorers kids’ club welcomes children aged 5 and over with activities rooted in the nature and culture of the region.
Restaurants, Polo and Golf
Dining spans four venues. La Cocina Mandarina is built around a comal for handmade tortillas, Buena Onda is a relaxed beach shack serving Spanish coastal dishes, tapas and paella, and Toppu, on the mountaintop, pairs Japanese robata and sushi with Mexican flavours. Barra Peñasco, a cliffside cocktail bar, is the place for sunset, and in-room dining is available around the clock. Each venue has its own setting, from the sand to the mountaintop, so dinner can be a different view every night of a week-long stay.
Away from the beach, the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club offers riding and polo lessons for guests of all ages, with matches usually held from November to May, and guided rides run from the rainforest trails down to the ocean, and the Greg Norman-designed Mandarina Golf Club has nine par-3 holes.
