Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons and the Rise of the Luxury Yacht Cruise

For years, our clients told us the same thing: we love the sea, but we do not do cruises. The buffets, the crowds, the bingo. Then the hotel brands they already trusted started building yachts, and the objection dissolved.

What is unfolding now is the fastest land grab in luxury travel: the world’s great hotel names are taking their service culture to the water, and the results feel nothing like cruising. Here is who is at sea, who is arriving next, and what we have learned booking clients on board.

Why Hotel Brands Are Building Luxury Yachts

The logic is simple: the brands already own the loyalty. A traveller who spends thirty nights a year with Four Seasons or Aman does not need convincing about the service; they need a reason to try the sea. Purpose-built yachts carrying a few hundred guests, all-suite and all-balcony, remove every objection the word cruise raises.

The numbers back the instinct. Luxury cruise demand is forecast to rise 20% over the next three years according to CLIA’s 2026 State of the Cruise Industry report, and the global luxury fleet has more than tripled since 2010. The economics work too. These ships sail at hotel-suite rates rather than cruise fares, sell largely to each brand’s existing guests, and fill their best categories a year out. For travellers, the prize is cruising and sailing with none of the compromises that used to come with it.

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection: Evrima, Ilma and Luminara

Ritz-Carlton moved first and now has a fleet of three: Evrima, the 298-guest original launched in 2022, followed by the larger Ilma in 2024 and Luminara in 2025. The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection formula is all-suite, all-balcony ships sailing the Mediterranean and Caribbean, with dining that would hold its own ashore.

The scale is closer to a grand hotel than a boat, which suits travellers who want restaurants to choose between and a proper spa. As a Marriott STARS and Luminous partner, we can add amenities and on-board credit that you will not find when booking direct.

Four Seasons Yachts: Inside Four Seasons I

Four Seasons I set sail in March 2026, sixty-five years to the day after the company opened its first hotel, and it is the most hotel-like ship yet built: 95 suites for just 222 guests, 11 restaurants and bars, and the largest standard suites at sea, as Forbes reported from the maiden season.

The itineraries favour quieter ports and private anchorages the big ships cannot reach, through the Greek islands, the Riviera and Croatia. Demand from existing Four Seasons loyalists has been extraordinary, and as a Four Seasons Preferred Partner, we have access and recognition on board that mirror what our clients already enjoy at the hotels.

Orient Express Corinthian: The World’s Largest Sailing Yacht

If Ritz-Carlton built the grand hotel at sea, Orient Express has built the legend. Corinthian, launched in June 2026, is the largest sailing yacht in the world: 54 suites, a culinary programme by 17-Michelin-starred Yannick Alléno and a Guerlain spa, with sister ship Olympian following in 2027.

This is the choice for travellers who want the crossing itself to be the story, sails set, phones down. It is the ship we expect to see on more magazine covers than any other this decade.

Aman at Sea: Amangati

Amangati, meaning peaceful motion, embarks on her maiden voyage in May 2027: 47 suites, 94 guests and the unmistakable Aman hush, designed by Sinot and built at the T. Mariotti yard in Italy. Five-night Mediterranean journeys open from around $38,500 for two. That is hotel-suite maths rather than cruise-fare maths, and it is precisely the point: Aman at Sea is not entering the cruise market; it is extending the resort to the water.

Aman devotees have already made the first season one of the scarcest bookings of 2027. Book through us, and you will also have access to benefits including a $500 onboard credit to use against dining, spa, and onshore experiences.

Jumeirah, Belmond and the Private Charter Route

Not every brand is building. Jumeirah has entered the water through its new Jumeirah Privé collection, offering the celebrated 88-metre sailing yacht Maltese Falcon for just 12 guests, sailing the Balearics, the Riviera, the Amalfi Coast and Greece. It is a different proposition: a full buyout, your own itinerary, a private chef. Through our Jumeirah Passport to Luxury partnership, we can arrange it as we would a villa, and for multigenerational families it often beats ten suites on a larger ship.

Belmond, meanwhile, has quietly run the same playbook on fresh water for years with its canal barges in France, arguably the original hotel-brand boats, and Bellini Club benefits apply when we book them.

What Our Travel Designers Have Learned

Three insights from the bookings we have made so far.

First, suites sell like hotel rooms, not cruise cabins. The best categories on named sailings go months out, so the booking rhythm is closer to Amankora in festival week than to a traditional cruise.

Second, listen to anyone who has sailed with us for the first time, and you hear one sentence in different words. They expected a ship and found a hotel that happens to travel. Same suite every night, same waiter who remembers how the coffee is taken, and a coastline that has changed by breakfast.

Third, the pairing matters. A Corinthian crossing bolted to a Riviera villa week, or Four Seasons I between two Four Seasons resorts, turns a good trip into a complete one. That is where a travel designer earns their keep.
